Labor Day started with a bang out on the Pacific, and our guests aboard The Peregrine enjoyed a holiday packed with unforgettable wildlife encounters and stunning conditions at sea.
Morning Magic: Minke & Humpback Whales
Our morning trip brought an incredible surprise right out of the gate — a minke whale surfacing gracefully nearby. Minkes are known for being shy and elusive, so it’s always a special treat when they make an appearance. Not long after, a beautiful humpback whale joined the show, delighting everyone on board with its powerful presence. All around us, scattered pods of Long-Beaked Common Dolphins darted and played, adding even more life and energy to the morning adventure.
Afternoon Adventures off Point Loma
The excitement didn’t stop there. On our afternoon trip, we encountered a very playful humpback whale right off Point Loma. This curious giant was kelping — rolling and playing with strands of seaweed, much to the delight of our guests. It’s not every day you get to see such a joyful display from one of the ocean’s largest animals! Alongside the humpback, about 50 Long-Beaked Common Dolphins leapt and surfed the waves, creating the perfect holiday scene. S

A Perfect Way to Celebrate Labor Day This Labor Day was a reminder of why San Diego is one of the best places in the world to connect with marine life. From the rare sight of a minke whale to the playful antics of a kelping humpback, the Pacific gave us a holiday to remember. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store — and we’d love for you to join us out on the water for your own once-in-a-lifetime experience!
