Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose Wild Pacific Whale Watch?
We offer the most comfortable whale watching experience in San Diego aboard the Peregrine, an 82-foot yacht-style vessel with air conditioning, cushioned seating, clean restrooms, and a galley on board. What really sets us apart is our Tohmei anti-rolling gyro boat stabilizers—an extremely rare feature in the industry. In fact we don’t know of any other whale watching vessel with it. —This drastically reduces motion and helps prevent seasickness. We’re a small, locally owned business with over 40 years of experience, and we’re passionate about creating unforgettable, respectful, and educational encounters with marine life.
What kind of whales will we see?
Depending on the season, you may encounter blue whales, gray whales, humpbacks, fin whales, and several dolphin species. Each trip offers a new opportunity to witness the magic of the Pacific Ocean.
When is the best time to go whale watching in San Diego?
San Diego is great for whale watching year-round:
- Blue whale season: Mid-to-late May through early fall
- Gray whale migration: December through April
- Fin, Humpback, & Minke whales: Year-round!aaaa
- Dolphins and other marine life: Year-round
Will I get seasick?
Our vessel is equipped with twin Tohmei anti-rolling gyro boat stabilizers that greatly reduce boat roll and motion. This helps minimize seasickness, especially while drifting or moving slowly. Still, if you’re prone to motion sickness, consider taking a non-drowsy medication before boarding.
What should I bring?
We recommend:
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
- Layered clothing (it’s often 15-20 degrees cooler on the water)
