Morning Trip
We kicked off the day with a burst of energy! We saw about 100 Long-beaked common dolphins right alongside the boat! Dozens of calves were in the pod, surfing and leaping with contagious playfulness. From there, we pushed 17 miles offshore where we encountered an active pod of Short-beaked common dolphins, putting on a show with high leaps out of the water.
On our way back in, we were surprised by a Minke Whale! Typically shy, this one was especially curious and playful, circling near the boat and giving us rare, extended looks. Bird activity was just as exciting, with sightings of Red-necked Phalaropes, Black-vented Shearwaters, Pomarine Jaegers, Elegant Terns, Brown Pelicans, and Western Gulls.
Afternoon Trip
Sunny skies and calm seas made for perfect conditions. Heading north toward Mission Beach, we found another energetic pod of about 100 Long-beaked common dolphins. Following massive bird activity offshore, we soon encountered a mega-pod of Short-beaked common dolphins, well over 1,000 dolphins! The pod stretched for miles, creating a true National Geographic-style spectacle with dolphins, seabirds, and surface feeding chaos.
Right in the middle of the frenzy, three different whales joined the feast: two Minke Whales and an impressively boat-curious Fin Whale, which lingered at our starboard side long enough to give everyone breathtaking close looks (plus a few rainbow spouts). Each and every day spent on the ocean brings us new surprises and we look forward to sharing more ocean fun with our guests aboard the Peregrine! Please come join us soon for a wild ocean adventure!
